ProLight Technology's Dedicated Light Source For Surgical Lights

Previously, LED applications in medical equipment were limited to simple indicator lights and display screens. However, with the continuous advancement of LED lighting technology, its cold light, narrow wavelength range, and high color rendering have surpassed the lighting effects of traditional light sources. It can also meet the stringent medical lighting requirements with more precise wavelengths and illumination. As a result, LED lighting has been applied to medical applications such as LED surgical shadowless lights, vascular lighting, LED endoscopes, and LED phototherapy.

LED lighting applications in the medical industry can be divided into three categories: medical lighting, and medical diagnosis and treatment. In medical lighting, surgical shadowless lamps are primarily used. Because surgical and dental lighting require a bright field of view, the illumination must be clear of obstructions (such as the surgeon's head or surgical instruments) that would affect the light intensity or create dark areas. Furthermore, they must provide excellent color discrimination for tissues such as blood vessels and nerves. Therefore, high CRI and high illuminance are essential elements of shadowless lamps.

ProLight has launched a dedicated light source for surgical lights. Its technical specifications include a white light source with a CRI of 95 and an R9 of >80. This high CRI makes the colors of internal tissues easier to discern. It also offers both cool white and warm white color temperatures in the same package (mixed light effect: 3000K to 5000K), allowing for customized color temperature adjustments based on the physician's preferences. This makes it a perfect light source for high-end surgical lights.

For medical diagnostic applications, LED light sources are more compact than traditional bulbs and are more suitable for installation in endoscopes and cystoscopes. Traditional bulbs, however, are too hot to be used inside patients for extended periods. The cold light source properties of LEDs avoid the potential heat damage caused by the high temperatures of traditional light sources. LEDs also offer a long lifespan and high stability, making them an optimal solution for capsule endoscopes. ProLight's mini LEDs are available in a 0302 size, making them suitable for capsule endoscopes. They also have a 1616 size suitable for general endoscopes.

In terms of treatment, the narrow wavelength of UVB LEDs also opens new possibilities for phototherapy. Because LEDs can produce a narrower wavelength than mercury lamps, they can deliver more concentrated energy for phototherapy. ProLight Technology also launched UVB LEDs, primarily operating in the 309-311nm wavelength range, the most important wavelength for phototherapy. These LEDs utilize an inorganic package to ensure complete energy release.

Medical lighting is a specialized field with a high barrier to entry. However, advancements in LED technology are enabling more precise and reliable lighting than traditional light sources. Furthermore, their cool light source and long lifespan can enhance the stability of medical environments.
