1. Background
MOLO Restaurant is a high-end establishment located by the Lipno Reservoir in South Bohemia, Czech Republic. Situated right at the water's edge, it offers guests panoramic views of the reservoir and surrounding forests while they dine. By day, the space is filled with natural light that shifts with the time and weather; as night falls, the restaurant transforms into a warm, glowing haven.
Lighting is central to the restaurant's atmosphere; a truly exceptional dining experience goes beyond taste, and perfectly balanced lighting is the key to giving the restaurant its soul. To ensure guest comfort, the project team sought to create an immersive dining environment through professional lighting design.
2. Challenges
The restaurant is divided into four distinct functional areas: the entrance, dining area, bar, and lounge. The lighting in each area had to harmonize with the specific natural light conditions of that space. Since each area faced different natural light exposure, the lighting requirements varied accordingly.
At the same time, the lighting environment needed to seamlessly support the dining experience-immersing guests in the perfect atmosphere while allowing staff to focus entirely on hospitality without the distraction of manual dimming adjustments.
3. Solutions
The interior lighting for MOLO Restaurant was designed by Luxlighting s.r.o., who selected Tridonic's smart LED lighting control system to achieve their vision. By combining high-quality scene control and DALI LED drivers with daylight sensors, the system automatically adjusts the lighting in all seating areas to match natural light conditions.
Each of the four areas features unique lighting characteristics and independent lighting profiles that operate harmoniously without interference. Staff can also manually adjust the lighting via iPad or wall switches when necessary to create the perfect ambiance.
Through systematic, professional lighting design that blends the lakeside setting with atmospheric light and shadow, MOLO Restaurant offers diners a sophisticated and memorable lakeside dining experience.
