Bridgelux Study Reveals Top Lighting Specifiers' Preference For Natural Light

Bridgelux, a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative LED solutions, has announced the results of a study commissioned for its innovative full-spectrum product family, Thrive. The study aimed to determine whether top designers could distinguish between Thrive and 90 CRI products and to identify-based on expert opinion-which light source appeared more natural.

The study utilized a combination of Thrive and 90+ CRI LEDs across color temperatures of 2700K, 3000K, and 4000K. The light sources were housed in a box and connected to a switch, with common objects of various colors and finishes, as well as standard color cards, placed beneath the LEDs inside. Designers could toggle back and forth within each CCT to discern any differences. Their feedback was recorded across a series of 18 separate tests. Overall, Thrive was preferred by 88% of participants, while 90 CRI was chosen by 8%, and 4% remained undecided. The response to Thrive was consistently enthusiastic; one lighting designer remarked, "It feels like sunlight coming through a window."

Thrive employs wide-blue-chip technology and a proprietary phosphor blend to fill the "cyan gap" common in most LED solutions. This technology lies at the heart of Sylvania's TruWave technology, used in their popular Nature™ Lamp product line. By adopting a full-spectrum approach, Thrive more closely matches the solar spectrum across all color temperatures. Benefits associated with Thrive's natural sunlight spectrum include reduced eye strain, less sleep disruption, and enhanced emotional well-being.
