SOSEN NP Series Non-isolated High-density Waterproof Outdoor LED Drivers 40–320W Selection Guide Protection Ratings

I. SOSEN NP Series Non-isolated High-density Waterproof Outdoor LED Drivers

The SOSEN NP series comprises non-isolated, high-density waterproof LED drivers designed for outdoor lighting. They cover a power range of 40W to 320W, accept 90–305Vac input, and achieve a peak efficiency of 96.5%. Protection ratings vary by power range, falling into either IP65 or IP66/IP67 categories. Gainer LED specializes in the distribution of LED components and compatible drivers; the following breakdown of specifications, protection ratings, dimming/programming capabilities, and certifications serves as a selection reference for projects involving street lights, tunnel lights, floodlights, stadium lights, and grow lights.

II. Six Core Parameters

1. Non-isolated design. Efficiency and compact size benefits stem from the topology itself; the trade-off is that the luminaire's insulation design cannot simply replicate that of isolated solutions.
2. Wide input voltage range (90–305Vac). Rated input is 100–277Vac (47–63Hz), with an additional DC input range of 127–300Vdc. Note regarding the low-voltage range: operation within the 90–108Vac interval requires adherence to the derating curve.
3. Peak efficiency of 96.5%. Official test conditions: 220Vac input, full load, 25°C. Efficiency at 120Vac and 277Vac is lower than this value; use the actual grid voltage when calculating energy consumption rather than simply applying the 96.5% figure.
4. Ingress protection ratings fall into two categories: IP65 for the 40–240W "B" version, and IP66/IP67 for the 240W and 320W "BHC" version. The distinction is based on the power rating, not the model number itself.
5. High power density. Taking the 240W model as an example: the "B" version measures 144×55×32mm, while the "BHC" version measures 165×66×37mm; the 320W "BHC" version measures 189×66×37mm.
6. Programmability. Supports dimming line programming via the SS-PROG-LIN tool.

III. Dimming, Timing, and Programming Capabilities

- Dimming methods: 0–10V positive logic (programmable to 0–5V), 10–0V negative logic (programmable to 5–0V), PWM, and external resistor. PWM specifications: high level 9.8–10.2V, low level 0–0.3V, frequency 1–2kHz, duty cycle 0–100%; resistor dimming range 0–100kΩ, corresponding to 10%–100% of the set current.
- Dimming-to-off: The dimming signal can turn off the output with no residual glow (feature applicable to "BHC" suffix models). Standby power consumption is less than 0.5W (at 220Vac/50Hz in dimming-off state).
- Programmable timing control: Includes Timed Dimming (TIM), End-of-Life Alert (ELA), and Constant Lumen Output (CLO) functions; settings can be customized according to project-specific schedules.
- Isolated auxiliary power supply: 12V/0.2A ("H" suffix). The specification imposes additional constraints: peak current must not exceed 400 mA within a 6.0 ms cycle, single-pulse duration must not exceed 2.2 ms, and the average value must not exceed 250 mA. These limits must be factored into calculations when powering sensors or control modules.
- Programming Interface: Programming via the dimming line; compatible with the SS-PROG-LINK V03 programmer; supports both offline and live (powered) programming.

IV. Protection, Reliability, and Certification Electrical and Protection

- Protection Types: Short-circuit, over-temperature, over-voltage, and under-voltage. Over-temperature protection activates at 90°C/93°C/96°C using a current-derating mode; automatic recovery occurs once the abnormal condition is removed.
- Surge Protection: Common mode 10 kV / Differential mode 6 kV (IEC/EN 61000-4-5, Criterion B); Ring wave Common mode 6 kV / Differential mode 6 kV (IEC/EN 61000-4-12, Criterion B).
- Power Factor and Harmonics: At 220 Vac full load: PF 0.97, THD 8%; at 120 Vac full load: PF 0.95, THD 10%; guaranteed minimums across the 120–277 Vac input and 60%–100% load range are PF 0.90 and THD 20%. Bid commitments must be based on these minimum values, not typical values.
- Current accuracy ±5%; line and load regulation ±5%; temperature coefficient ±0.06%/°C; startup time 0.5 s; maximum no-load output voltage 350 V. Environment and Lifespan
- Operating case temperature: -40°C to +90°C (max. case temperature 90°C; operation at Ta 55°C); storage temperature: -40°C to +90°C; operating humidity: 10%–90% RH; altitude: -65m to 4000m.
- MTBF: 200,150 hours (220Vac, full load, ambient temperature 25°C, MIL-HDBK-217F).
- Lifespan: ≥ 50,000 hours (case temperature 85°C, full load).
- Warranty: 5 years.

V. Application Scenario Matching

  • Street lights: Outdoor use year-round, intermittent day/night operation, maintenance requires working at heights;
  • Tunnel lights: Continuous 24-hour operation, high humidity, significant temperature difference between tunnel interior and exterior;
  • Floodlights: Arbitrary installation angles, noticeable localized temperature rise;
  • Stadium lights: Sensitive to flicker, require synchronization with broadcast cameras;
  • Grow lights: Long-duration full-load operation, require dimming based on specific light recipes.

VII. Selection Sequence and Purchasing Points

1. Place orders using the complete model number, including wattage, voltage range, and suffix. Simply specifying "NP Series" or "240W NP" is insufficient to distinguish between the B version and the BHC version.
2. Confirm the luminaire housing dimensions and ingress protection (IP) requirements before deciding between the B version and the BHC version. The B version is 55mm wide (IP65), while the BHC version is 66mm wide (IP66/IP67); they are not interchangeable.
3. Verify the voltage range of the LED string. The range is 150–260Vdc for 40–80W models and 180–300Vdc for 100W and above; operation outside the recommended voltage range requires actual testing of the complete luminaire.
4. Calculate efficiency based on the actual grid voltage. The 96.5% figure is a typical value at 220Vac full load; for 120Vac operation, refer to the efficiency curve in the datasheet.
